Though only twenty-five, Guillermo De Fazio, along with his brother Enrique, have already become a legendary dance couple: “Los Hermanos Macana.” They are famous worldwide for their breathtaking and witty tango interpretations. With their full-length two-man shows they thrill their audiences at Tango, Dance and Theatre festivals from America to Europe and Australia.

They couldn’t have chosen a more striking stage name: The term “macana” comes from the Lunfardo, the language of the harbor quarters of Buenos Aires and means “a witty guy” and also “one who’s just got it.” And that’s exactly what they are: playful and comical but with an incredible technical brilliance, a unique couple bursting with ideas and energy, not just because they are two men dancing tango together.

Yet “Los Macanas” are everything else but a “modern couple.” Deliberately they call themselves traditional tango dancers. Thus they take up an important part of tango history, when at the beginning of the last century men danced with each other, a consequence of the lack of ladies in the immigration country Argentina.

In their classes, Guillermo teaches with a lot of fun and empathy and of course technical perfection. Guillermo is pure joy for his students.

MILONGA LOS AMIGOS

Mariela Franganillo is widely regarded as one of the best tango dancers and teachers of her generation, in addition to being a great choreographer and producer. Born and raised in Argentina, she learnedto dance tango in the milongas in Buenos Aires before studying with Gustavo Naveira and dancing with his Tango Troupe in 1990. Early highlights of her career include dancing in Los Tangueros at Teatro Cervantes and at Casa Blanca in Buenos Aires. After moving to the U. S.,
she performed at the Smithsonian Institute and performed & taught at Stanford University before moving to New York City where she currently resides. Mariela has performed in productions at Lincoln Center, Town Hall and Carnegie Hall, with companies such as NY Tango, Piazzolla & Beyond, Avantango, X-Tango and Eternal Tango. She is proudest of her most recent producing venture, SWANGO, which mixes the unique styles of Argentine Tango & West Coast Swing. Mariela conceived and choreographed the show, together with Robert Royston and was joined by Tony Award Winner Rupert Holmes on the book. She was part of the Broadway cast of Forever Tango, performed with Julio Iglesia's stage show and at the Paquito D'Rivera Tribute at Carnegie Hall and teaches at Dance
Manhattan. A uniquely gifted teacher who has given workshops across the United States, Canada and Japan, Mariela brings a fresh enthusiasm for tango that is melded with polished skills, years of experience and a
legacy that stretches back to the golden-era of tango.
