A trained classical dancer, he started his career in 1981 working with prestigious ballet companies. He forayed into tango in his early twenties learning from the great masters of that time. His teachers were Petroleo and Todaro who gave him all the figures and steps that he wanted to learn. As he went along, he found himself deeply immersed into the rhythm and nostalgia of the dance. The greatest influence on his career was Juan Carlos Copes from whom he took countless lessons and hours of hard work got him to where he is now. Copes directed him in his first tango spectacle entitled “TANGO TANGO” in 1988. Despite the great teachers who have influenced his career, Roberto Reis retains a distinctive style setting himself apart from his teachers and today’s present crop of dancers He has toured forty-five countries since he started his tango journey teaching and performing in places like the United States, Europe, Japan, and Korea. He has performed for several productions around the world such as: Tango 92 de Mariano Mores, Forever Tango, Milonga Boulevard, Fascination Tango, Tango Metropolis. He took part in Julio Iglesias Tango Tour in 1997. He was a judge for the 3rd International Tango Festival organized by the city government of Buenos Aires in 2005. |
